Engineered Prototype

The goal of the Engineered Prototype (EP) build is to create manufactured samples of the product that can be used for feasibility (Alpha) testing.

Industrial Design

Based on product requirements, generate preliminary design concepts for the product with a focus on look, form, proportion, and technical details.

Mechanical Engineering

Prepare CAD model, technical drawings, material selections for the mechanical aspects of the product as well as perform tolerance analysis and finite element analysis.

Schematic Capture

Draft an electrical block diagram for the product electronics, select all key components, and then prepare a schematic diagram describing the product’s electrical system.

Firmware Base

Develop basic firmware that can be used on the engineered prototype units after manufacturing to verify core functionality as well as validate performance of any critical features.

PCB Layout

Prepare CAD model, assembly drawing, and electrical Bill of Materials for the printed circuit board(s) in the product and then perform a team-wide design review of the system.

Engineering Samples

Send the Engineered Prototype (EP) filesets out for manufacturing. Manufacturing usually takes on the order of 2-3 weeks. After receipt of EP manufactured samples, perform bring-up and integration testing. Units are now ready for Alpha trials.

Engineered Prototype (EP) units are the first manufactured prototypes of your product concept.

EP units typically are not yet power or performance optimized, nor do they have complete software applications. But they are functional and manufactured prototypes of the product and serve to verify – from a technical perspective – all the core functionalities of the product.
