A panoramic view of downtown Chicago

As Breadware has a growing number of design partnerships and collaborations, I and a few members of the Breadware team recently took a trip to the International Design Conference (IDC) in Chicago!

This trip was long overdue, as design has consistently remained at the core of many of the most successful product development initiatives we have been a part of.

Shout outs to the IDSA team and all of the hosting design firms for a great conference in a beautiful city. The content presented was both useful and inspiring and the inclusive nature of the high caliber attendees made the event one of a kind. I put together some of my personal highlights from the trip here as a quick recap:

  1. J Mays and the 5 Things that Matter Most

  2. Photo of J Mays presenting 5 Things that Matter Most on the IDC 2019 stage

J Mays is a legendary designer now at Whirlpool. On Friday, he gave an amazing presentation about the 5 Things that Matter Most. Great design is about connecting with people at every point of contact. J discussed his 40-year career designing automobiles, the stories behind them and how they resonate with us on an emotional level.

  3. The award nominees and winners!

  4. Photo of the IDC 2019 stage of award nominees

Multiple amazing product teams were honored with design awards for products soon to be launched (lots of IoT!). It was great to see how design and technology will shape the way that we will interact with construction tools, workout equipment, next-gen surgical equipment, and our own living spaces. It was also inspiring to see a snapshot of the personal work of Dan Harden and Jeevak Badve as they were inducted into the Academy of Fellows.

  5. Facebook and Red Collaboration – The Future of Immersive Video Capture

Joyce Hsu from Oculus shared some exciting news about the future of video capture for AR/VR. I can’t wait to see what comes out of this high powered collaboration.

  7. The Chicago design studio tours

  8. Photo collage of IDC 2019 events and parties

Many tier-one design firms opened their doors to give a look into the daily lives of their studio design teams. A special thank you to Teams and MNML for showcasing some of their amazing work and hosting us all for an epic after-party.

  9. Chicago!

  10. Photo of Chicago cityscape

Fell in love with Chicago in just a few days. Venue Six10 and the Wendella Architecture tour gave me a view of the city that will stick with me for quite some time. Can’t wait to get back over there.

I hope this gives you a quick snapshot of the event. Looking forward to heading to Seattle next year for IDC 2020!
